In this awesome capture we get a real sense of the size of these Coast Redwood trees (Sequoia sempervirens). The photograph, shot by Redditor thecynicroute, was taken at the Avenue of the Giants, a scenic highway in northern California that runs through Humboldt Redwoods State Park.
The 31-mile (50km) ‘avenue’ runs through 51,222 acres of redwood groves. The state park features the largest remaining stand of virgin redwoods in the world. It is here that you will find the 8th, 6th, 4th and 2nd tallest trees in the world.
Famous tourist landmarks include the ‘Immortal Tree’ which is over 950 years old; the ‘Drive-Through Trees’ of which there are three (it will cost you $5 to do so apparently); and the ‘Tree House’ which is actually a house that is partially built within a giant redwood.. #photooftheday #pictureoftheday #amazing #cool #wow #beautiful #photography
